Natural Stone
Natural Stone is generally considered within two classifications. Granite is one classification and the Marble family - marble, travertine, limestone and onyx - is the second classification.
The marble family offers stunning natural beauty with deep veining and graining in spectacular colors usually displayed in unique patterns with movement. Whereas granite is known for its hardness and high gloss finishes, the Marble family has more porosity, is a softer stone but offers stunning veining and color choices. Granite would be considered a 7 - 8 on a scale of 10 for hardness, while Marble family members would be considered a 6. Therefore, marble is excellent for uses in bathrooms, floors, walls and fireplace surrounds.
Granite has been recognized for centuries as an excellent building material, both for its hardness and for its polished beauty. It is the second hardest substance known next to diamonds and was formed within the earth over centuries of geologic activity. When quarried, cut to dimensions usable for building purposes and polished, the granite will actually maintain its high gloss luster virtually forever! The qualities of hardness and long-lasting luster make granite the perfect choice for kitchens, bathrooms, flooring and many other building/decorating needs.
